Summary

Ms. Lucas joined the DOE Joint Genome Institute in 2000 as a lab manager. She was already involved in the Human Genome Project prior to that, joining Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in 1997.  She worked as a technician on the sequencing line and worked her way through the sequencing process. From 2002 through Spring 2011, she managed the Production Operations of the DOE Joint Genome Institute as Department Head. She led the sequencing efforts of chromosomes, 5, 16 and 19 and the transition to whole genome shotgun sequencing. During her time in production, Ms. Lucas has overseen a tremendous increase in throughput and reduction in sequencing cost per lane as well as the transition to five sequencing technologies.  Recently, she transitioned to an operational role leading a team of project managers and analysts focusing on Operational Efficiency, Project Management, and Workflow Management. The group bridges the knowledge gap between Operations and Science, providing support in the areas of planning, project management, and lean six sigma continuously looking to advance the DOE Joint Genome Institute.
