Informatics Department
The Informatics Department provides computational infrastructure and support to facilitate JGI's production and research and development efforts.
Groups
Comparative Genomics
This group is engaged in developing new algorithms and visualization tools for genome-scale comparisons to allow users to browse and navigate through these complex datasets.
VISTA Tools
IMG
This team, comprising members of the LBNL Biological Data Management and Technology Center, develops the Integrated Microbial Genomes (IMG) data analysis system and its metagenomics component, IMG/M.
Genome Annotation
The Genome Annotation group is responsible for automated annotation and analysis of eukaryotic genomes and metagenomic projects. Their work encompasses development of a high-throughput annotation pipeline and support of user communities for distributed genome curation and analysis.
Genome Assembly
The Genome Assembly Group develops new software tools for assembling genomes, including order and orientation. Using the JGI-developed JAZZ assembler, this group pieces together JGI's large-organism genomes from sequenced reads.
Genome Data Systems
The Genome Data Systems Group develops web sites and applications to make genomic data available to the world. Some members specialize in developing Web-based informatic software, while others specialize in online content development.
JGI Genome Portal
Web Engineering
Web Engineering is responsible for providing computational support for different scientific programs across the PGF, including CSP proposal management and the web site you are viewing. It also manages the Genbank submission process for data at all stages of processing.
Production Informatics
This group develops and maintains the JGI's laboratory information management system and is responsible for data management
Systems Administration
Work by this group keeps JGI computer systems running smoothly and securely. Group members support PC, Mac, Linux, and Unix systems.
